It's part of New England. It's also part of the tri state region. You can argue which one it's closer to.

The so-called tri-state region is an artificial construct with less than a hundred years behind it; New England is an historical region that has been the same since, I believe, 1620.

Geo-political boundaries are also an artificial construct.

Yep. But, that's a lot of history; doesn't seem like it's up to us CDF types to alter it.

Fairfield county should just secede from the rest of CT.

I agree. It doesn't have much in common with the rest of the state. And it's the reason some people think CT is not part of New England!

That’s not true at all. Fairfield and New Haven County are like siblings. Both have the sound, both have Metro North, both have traffic that overwhelmingly moves south in the morning and north in the evening. They are way more alike than different.

Also keep in mind, greater than half the state’s population lives in those counties that make up part of the NY metro area - if anything, the rest of the state should secede from CT.

Maybe New Haven County isn't part of New England either! Just joking because of course CT is part of New England. I don't know what direction Hartford County traffic moves in the morning and evening but what has that got to do with anything? If any place isn't part of New England, it's that massive city...what's it called? Bawston?

I've lived in Massachusetts for 40 years, I have never heard of anyone saying Connecticut was not part of New England.

Boston is quite far from major CT population centers so as Providence

Boston is 1 hour 30 mins from Hartford about 101 miles

Boston is 2 hours 8 mins from New Haven about 135 miles

Boston is 2 hours 20 mins from Bridgeport and 2 hours 40 mins from Stamford about 155 and 174 miles each
