East of 395 and anywhere near the lake is very clean and safe. I haven't heard anything about the schools since I moved away.

Do you have to be on the pike? If not, I would look at Westminster. One of the best values around.
Ashburnham-Westminster is the Dudley-Charlton of the north. Both are an oasis between two less desirable towns: Gardner/Fitchburg and Southbridge/Webster respectively...if that makes any sense.

I have to drop my daughter off at a private school in Millis for the next two years and then I head to work which is up to Bolton. So I'm trying to find an affordable town with good schools that would be a not horrible commute. My commute is already 1 hour and 15 minutes/each way and I'm willing to continue that or even extend it because it seems necessary to move further west to look for a decent place. Going up towards Westminster would be tough because each school day, I'd have to head down to Millis and then turn around on 495 and head back up towards Bolton.

Have you thought maybe to buy in one of the nicer neighborhoods in Worcester? Maybe you could leave your daughter in private school? There are some nice ones in the city and your money will buy you into a suburban feel/very safe neighborhood. Just an idea.

Here is a random example of what is out there in a decent neighborhood for under $300, 000 https://www.realtor.com/realestatean..._M41228-39729#
Depends on what you would like for your money.

OK, I'll do it....How about Clinton? It's actually one of the safest towns in Massachusetts, and the schools have improved a lot in recent years. If you were willing to look at Webster, how about Douglas, Uxbridge or some of the other Blackstone Valley towns in that corridor? A price under $300K isn't unreasonably low there, and the schools/safety would be better than Webster.

Can't you make do with a small two bedroom Cape or ranch? I'm certain I see them pop up in Millis, Medway, Uxbridge and Hopkinton, Holliston on occasion.

I would not recommend Clinton due to the schools. In the mid 2000s they were considered quite solid, but faced massive cutbacks and to my knowledge have struggled to get back to where they were. Uxbridge and Douglas would be good choices, if you could find something at that price. You might even try Bellingham, you just never know what might turn up.

I thought about Bellingham, too because that brings her a lot closer to Millis. I guess there are some townhouse type condos there that would be in that price range.
