That can happen anywhere. The owner is supposed to get fair compensation.

Probably good news for the owner. If you have an undesirable property and you can unload it, you are thrilled to get out of Brockton.

Not sure I would avoid moving somewhere simply because they've used eminent domain once every 40 years.

Definitely would not put what happened to the Native Americans into the same category as eminent domain. Completely different situation and a completely different era.

I think there are many other reasons not to buy property in Brockton than this.

Back in the early 2000's I looked into buying a house on the Whitman/Abington edge of Brockton. The prices were low and then I found out why, crime. A guy I worked with that lived in Brockton told me that his insurance rates for house and auto nearly doubled when he moved there because it was inevitable that his house would be broken into and his car stolen. I don't know if he ever experienced this type of crime but his insurance company expected it.

That was nearly 20 years ago and I don't think Brockton has gotten any better.

I remember that building and it is right up against the train tracks. It probably shakes when a T train goes by at 50 mph.

Would never have considered buying in Brockton anyway.
