Hi! We are a same sex family with a 3 year old daughter. We are in south Florida and eventually want to make it up north. (To escape this heat!)

We own a dog grooming salon and I would like to be able to find a new job as a groomer or salon manager once we make the move.

We would like to have a years rent covered to move. Our budget would be around $1500 a month for housing.

Can anyone suggest a town that might be a good fit for us?

Thank you!

First of all where will you be working? $1,500 is not much in MA so you're probably going to want to look west of 495. You probably already know the cost of living in MA is pretty high.

Figure out the job situation first.

Shrewsbury, Westborough, Northborough might be at the top of your budget. Actually I am not sure you'll find a two bedroom in these towns for $1,500. You may want to look at towns further west like Holden. Maybe further north, closer to route 2 like Leominster.

What are your requirements? 2 bedroom, 1 bath? Proximity to Boston? Near a train (commuter rail)?

Why Mass.? In most cases there are plenty of better places to go if you are "just looking for a place to escape the heat".

What Mass Native said. Massachusetts is not an escape.

Try Delaware or Rhode Island.

Well, you'd fit in great in Northampton. Look it up!

I don't have town advice, you'll get that in spades. However one thing to consider is starting a mobile pet grooming service (i.e. vans that drive come to you to do the grooming). The services around here won't even return your call. They have year long waiting lists or are just not accepting new clients. People have money to burn (though a bit less than on Monday), and will spend it on their pets. Start with one van and build from there.

I was going to suggest Northampton, too. It will be less expensive than the Boston area.

I can tell you that having moved from FL myself, MA seems very gay friendly. It's refreshing actually. In my neighborhood, there are 4 lesbian families, including my neighbors, and plenty of peace flags all over the place. It made me really happy when I moved here, and was able to explain to my toddler what those rainbow flags represented.

I agree that MA is very same-sex friendly.
