Our neighbor across the street has a driveway that lines up with the middle of our front lawn. When contractors back into their driveway the sometimes take the easy way out and drive up on our grass. It's annoying when it's dry, but when it basically tears up the grass on the first five or six feet of our lawn. Their snowplow guy also plows their snow into our front yard when he clears their drive. That's not so bad, but he generally takes up the first foot of our lawn with his plow, too.

It there anything I can do to keep people from driving on our lawn? Would snowplow sticks work? Rocks? Large spikes? (that last one was a joke, btw). Do I just need to forget about people not ruining the front 3 feet of my lawn and design around it?

I'd try the snowplow sticks first.

That sucks and you should not have to put up with it. I had a similar problem years ago on a property I used to own. In addition to what you mention, people were also parking partially on my front lawn (and half on the street). I had a bunch of boulders delivered and placed as close to the road as the town limit. I suggest doing that to prevent the trucks from driving onto your lawn but also can't hurt to add the sticks as can put them closer to the road (I believe), put a ton of them out there and they are not expensive. Good luck.

A couple large rocks should take care of it.

Man...if I saw a truck drive on my lawn, I'd throw a fit. My wife jokes that one day she'll see me trimming it with scissors by hand

Had the same issue and resolved it with large rocks (~100lbs) painted white. Doesn't help with the snow plows, but the look on the mail truck driver's face was priceless when she was about to pull her signature U-turn on my lawn to turn around for the neighbor's mailbox and saw the large rocks in her path. Never happened again. Also stopped local landscapers from parking there, which was an added bonus.

Yes, rocks would be good but the plow driver may not see them so I think he needs the sticks in the winter.

I'd say large rocks/boulders and to talk to the neighbor so they can let contractors and others know to not to use your lawn as a pass through.

A fence might do the trick?

We had a similar issue with neighbors using our lawn as a shortcut. First we talked to them... Nada. Then hedges, Still caught them doing it. Then fence. That solved it.

Reminds me of an old apartment I had that had a loop around driveway with two entrances, that had become a favorite turn-around spot. Well, come winter the landlord stopped plowing the "entrance". Late one night, I woke up to a loud "crash". Jumped out of bed, looked out the kitchen window to find a drunk who got his pickup stuck "see-sawing" in the middle of the snowbank. Never stayed up to find out how he resolved his predicament, but I can say I went back to sleep with a big grin on my face.
