Hi,

I am considering relocating to Burlington / Boston area to take up a job. What would something in the range of 54k to 104k (before tax) OTE get me in terms of lifestyle? I know that it is a very wide range, but if you could cover the lowest, highest and an average between the two that would be great.

I am a single guy, looking at a 1 bedroom with 1 bath house for rent (preferably non-sharing). If I bought a new car, how much would I end up with in my pocket? Something that should be duly noted is that I am not much of a cook, so it is likely that I could have all 3 meals out. Also, I am interested in playing soccer and/or cricket for any club. Any recommendations on where that might be possible? Appreciate everyone's assistance on this front.

Thanks,

You could live quite well on that salary. It might be hard to find a house with one-bedroom- they're rare, unless you meant a condo or townhouse, in which case there are no shortage of nice higher-end places to rent. I'd favor the luxury apartments on Rt.2 in Concord- midway between Burlington and the social life of Cambridge/Boston for a young single guy.
Renting a house, I don't know. I don't think there are a lot of houses for rent in general, and most are quite big (unsold new ones, family neighborhoods, etc.)
How about a relocation agent to talk you through housing options?

Default What abt appartments then?

Well what about 1 bedroom, 1 bath appartments? How much do you think the rent for the luxary appartments that you mention on Rt.2 in Concord are? and how much for condos or townhouses?

I think I would be looking at something around the 1k mark for monthly rent.

On the relocation agent front, if it becomes an absolutely neccessary I dont see why not.

Thanks,

I think you should be ok on 54,000 in Burlington but it is quite boring there if you are into nightlife. Rents will range from $1000-$2500. However the closer you get to Boston the more expensive things will be. You should try search the boston.com real estate section and check out some of the available properties for rent.
