Yes there are students and young people and young families, Jewish and not Jewish.

There are also a ton of old folks at Coolidge Corner. While it is "nice", it's far from exciting.

I'd definitely recommend Brookline. Your budget is a little low though. You can probably find something for $2000, but you'll likely need to get in the $2200 to $2300 range for a decent 1 bed in Brookline.

When I lived there 25 years ago, when I was in law school, there were lots of students (mostly graduate students, as opposed to undergrads), as well as lots of older people and middle aged people. I believe it is still the same -- people of all ages live there. It's close to several universities, close to the hospitals, has excellent public transit, and at one point had the highest percentage of Jewish residents of any town in the country.

I saw plenty of 2 bedroom apartments in Brookline for $2000 and under

You don't know what anything about Orthodox Jews... nobody is a grandmother by that age... mid 40s at the earliest...
