They don't matter for education, but they seem to impact real estate values and home prices.
US News just released their 2019 rankings of best High Schools.
I see Nashoba Regional is #17 in the state, I live in Stow and this is great for real estate! I am used to seeing the schools ranked a bit lower so this is nice to see!
For some reason I feel that Stow houses sell for less than value (even though I know value is what someone is willing to pay) I think some neighboring towns have appreciated in value more and I am not sure why. Even though Stow has really high taxes.

It seems US News changed their ranking methodology and it caused a bit of a shake up in the list. I was really surprised to see Needham ranked above both Newton High Schools and also Brookline.
I really need to take a closer look at the article which describes the change in the ranking system so I can understand why these schools are falling on the chart where they are.
Lincoln-Sudbury does not offer many APs. They do their own advanced classes and don’t teach to the test. Therefor they are always ranked surprisingly low when number of APs offered is a factor. If you look at SAT scores/MCAS it’s usually pretty close to the top. This is always a matter of contention within the town because rankings=property value.

There used to be a number of schools that did this. They would have say, Bio 2 Honors, but not AP Bio. The teachers didn't want to teach to the test. Often though, they offered extra sessions for test priming. That's what I did in bio and chemistry.
I was surprised by the top 100 nationally. Only one MA high school made the cut. The top 7 feature one high school in Maine, but most were in the South.

Meh, many, if not most, of those (even when you select for "traditional" schools) aren't open enrollment schools. Not really comparable, IMO, when you need to test in.
North Quincy is ahead of Andover, North Andover and even......Natick high!! Noooooo! Lol
