On another post I just described towns like this as falling in the category of overpriced, overpaved, Cheesecake Factory huffing suburb. Buttlington might epitomize the category. To each their own tho!

I worked two non-consecutive jobs in the NE Executive park next to the mall for about 6 years total in the 2000's. I hated it, it was very much boilerplate American mall town. I go back now occasionally and think I would enjoy being there much more. They knocked over a few of those crappy office buildings I worked in and put up that oyster bar, the Tavern and Tuscan Kitchen, the whole new stick build Lynnfield Marketplace Lite they put in on Middlesex Turnpike. I know it's just an evolution of the American mall town, it's never gonna be Cambridge, but it's better than nothing. I would feel like I could get an above average meal and throw back some beers there now somewhere if I wanted.

Also, you can do much worse than to have the Lahey Clinic in your town.

The town is what it is. If you're looking for CamberVille, you're not going to find it here. It's a suburban town with a reasonable cost of living, great access to highways, a strong family atmosphere, and an attractive business climate.

In the past 5-7 years, developers have recognized the potential for high end dining, shopping, and living. But if that's all you see, then you aren't seeing the whole town. I live as far away from the mall area but like that I can drive 10-15 minutes and have a plethora of dining and shopping options.

My sense is that anyone judging Burlington, Natick and probably a variety of other places by what's going on at the mall doesn't know enough to warrant making their comments. Though I guess if nothing else, citydata is useful for showing you the stereotypes that people hold about these towns.

Would add to the comments that Burlington has a large Indian community and there's lots of great, authentic Indian restaurants in town. You'll never have to go to Cheesecake Factory I promise

There is only one good Indian restaurant in town. What are the others?

Ritu Ki Rasoi is all vegetarian and great. It's hidden behind some other buildings.

The new one, Al Maidah, is good too, not usually as packed.

Holi and Versa de Punjab are Bedford, but close enough!

...and if Indian isn't your thing, there's a Korean BBQ place, a great coffee shop True North, Jimmy's for breakfast, Blackbird Cafe just opened, LaCascia's for subs and pastry, and a plethora of great steak houses and seafood restaurants.

I've been to Cheesecake once and it was overwhelming.
