Does this town stand a chance at becoming a more professional town in the future? I know it’s roots, which are still evident and there is some Lowell spillover. However it has a prime commuter location with easy access to white collar / technology job centers in Andover, Chelmsford, the Burlington / Woburn corridor and even into Boston. Prices are still reasonable because schools arent rated as highly.

So will there be a turnover effect in this town in the near future, particularly in the currently less desirable parts of Tewksbury?

Unlikely...but there's always a chance.

I think so. In South Tewksbury (near Silver lake) they’re tearing down the old cottages and putting up 2500 sq ft colonials. More and more people are priced out of Boston and Greater Boston, so they go north until they find something they can afford - Which for a lot of people is Tewksbury.

As someone that just moved out of there, I also vote "unlikely". Getting anywhere from Tewksbury is a pain. To Boston? Forget about it, I could never get into the office in under 90 minutes on a weekday morning.

Prices are reasonable because the schools are garbage, it's on swamp land, the neighborhoods are for the most part unkempt and unmaintained (spare a few North Tewksbury neighborhoods like Catamount). Just spend some time on the town facebook group to see how backwards the population is there. The proximity to Lowell doesn't help either.

I see Billerica having a better chance of coming up than Tewksbury.

I think location gives Wilmington a good chance.

I would reverse those two. IMHO Tewksbury has more general potential than Billerica. The crappiest areas of Tewksbury are on the west side bordering Billerica.

I once considered Tewksbury as a place to live, but everything I liked about it began to change as spill-over from Lowell began to spur development. Now Rt38 is full of new development and it takes 45mins just to get from one end to the other during rush hour.

I liked the quiet sleepy farm feel that it had 10-15 years ago. It seems to be losing some of that as it becomes (what it seems) more congested.

Some of the housing prices amaze me though. I've seen new construction in the $700's and up in some newer developments. Just seems high as that would be better spent in Wilmington where schools are much better.

I still like the town, but part of me is glad I didn't buy there.

I have some family living in Tewksbury, as someone said earlier,it was much nicer 10 -20 years ago with small farms and fewer traffic lights. Then the developers started building condos. Town is now full of out of state Blow Ins, who complain about commuting times to work.
