Hi,

In the market looking for a house. Seeing quite a few new construction/nice looking homes in Billerica and Tewksbury. School ratings are not so impressive. I know ratings by themselves could be misleading. Would love some feedback from those familiar with these areas on schools here? Thoughts on schools?

Both towns have newer high schools. Tewksbury recently approved a new single elementary school which will service the entire town. As far as I know the schools are decent, and have gotten better in recent years. Both towns have a big emphasis on sports as well.

The school ratings are reflective of the median income and residents currently in these towns. Both towns were very working class, though Billerica was more white/Irish with a particularly unflattering reputation.

Given the job density of 128/95 and Boston, I imagine both towns will improve greatly as younger families have been priced out of towns like Bedford. I personally think Billerica has a bit more upside as it's residential neighborhoods aren't plagued by commercial sprawl like Tewksbury. The census data also shows that it's trending toward "gentrification" at a faster rate.

As someone who lived in Tewksbury for 4 years, I agree. Billerica will gentrify faster than Tewksbury. Better location, better housing stock, better commercial tax base. Tewksbury will always be a secondary suburb of Lowell, Billerica can join Burlington, Wakefield, Wilmington and the Readings as a "part" of the Boston metro.
