Wow, thanks for the replies everyone!

Valerie, I would really appreciate any help or info you can provide!

Puffle - good point about the trash pickup. In fact, I think I had heard at some point that Winchester has that issue as well ... I will follow up on that for both those towns - and no, please, keep talking - I'm listening! I would rather know the bad (or not to your liking) points than not!

And Rabbit - I always appreciate your unique local prospectives (I especially remember one doozy about Lexington school kids! )

Have you consider Acton since it has a train going to North Station? Excellent schools and very family oriented from all economic situations. You have Acton West and Acton South. West has more stores and is closer to the train. You also have Concord and Concord West that both have their own train stations. You could definetly get a home or Townhome in your price range plus there is public sewage and trash collection including recycling. I lived in Lexington years ago and loved it. Great community for kids but very expensive. Concord has many parks, Walden Pond plus other areas for fishing and beach at White's Pond and a great Community Rec Center called the Beede Center with indoor pools, classes and a full gym. Great walkable downtown as well. Wish you all the luck in your endevours.

[SIZE=2]Do not go to Acton or concord…..
Why? Because you will get a better and newer property in Westford for that money, and there are not many differences except Acton and Concord have a much higher tax rate. Also Acton and Concord, even though it has been said that the schools are great, have much older homes. The newer construction is 800K and up. You will be a subject to constant fundraisers and tax overrides.
Westford is awesome. The schools are in my opinion better than Acton’s, and never. Westford has had a lot of subdividing going on and now there are plenty of nice neighborhoods to chose from. New and newer colonial homes and green lawns is what you will get there for your money. Crime is even less than Acton’s (even though almost non existent in both towns).
Microsoft is in process of moving here and there a abundant high tech companies. Your neighbors are most likely to be professional younger people with offspring. Yes Neshoba is a joke for pros, but a lot of fun for kids. You have farm stands, strawberry picking, apple picking etc. Just awesome for young kids.
Winchester is awesome as well but the homes are older. Yet you can not beat the convenience.
We are actually moving back into the area because of the convenience and Boston proximity.

If you are city inclined than stay in Winchester. In Westford everywhere you go it is about 20-30 min by car.
