And you wonder why they want to increase the gas tax.

Have you seen how much other state employees make?

https://www.masslive.com/news/2020/0...base-2020.html

Seems like everyone makes over 100k.

That lists total pay, which is very different from a salary. Also, the 100k mark (what a tech worker with 5-8 years of experience earns roughly from what I see), seems to be at about 12% (page 800 or so of over 6000 pages). So, definitely not everyone.

I don’t see why everyone is so hung up on state salaries. You want to get paid like a state employee, go apply for the job. Most aren't raking in that sort of money anyway. Many that do typically need overtime to accomplish it. Teacher's are another salary that people tend to ***** about, yet the first question asked by many is "what towns have a great school system?". Can't have your cake and eat it to. If you are upset that a teacher makes $80K teaching kids, go apply for the job and become a teacher. Nothing stopping you.

If a report on individual private sector employee salaries was ever released people would go ape**** over some of the salaries and assumed job functions.

The crab in a bucket mentality is strong.

Usually city of Boston employee salaries have been released by now as well. For some reason 2019 hasn’t been reported yet.

I also don’t get why people get so outraged at these salaries. Look at how much it costs to live in MA, not to mention Boston. If you’re mad that they make more than you find a different job.

People are mad because 1) it's our tax dollars 2) the crazy amount of overtime would never happen in the private sector.

As mentioned above, most of these employees have base salaries of around 70k but many make more than double that from overtime. We all know that they're not working efficiently when on the clock for 60 hours. For example my brother in law has a base salary of 76k but makes 157k after overtime, he admits he takes naps in his cruiser and goes to parties while on the clock and says everyone does.

.

The solution is to hire more people so the overtime isn't necessary, but, the Gov has an FTE cap out there (probably doesn't affect the quasis though).

Also don't these state employees get pension too? So they essentially don't have to save for retirement, while most of us have to save on our own and hope our 401k doesn't lose half its value when we retire.

What's so funny about that? When I worked as a civil engineer I was salaried. I stayed late in the office, even worked on weekends and did not get overtime. You worked until the project was complete.
