If student-facing staff and faculty got their first vaccines in the next month, they'd be fully vaccinated before many students leave for the summer. But then again, we had a significant portion of students stay even last summer because they didn't have anywhere safe to go and I imagine we'll have a larger percentage of students on campus this summer for summer classes and research.

At the very least, residence life staff who live and work in proximity to isolation housing should have been able to get vaccinated along with staff at homeless shelters, nursing and other residential homes.
Brown University even has a third summer semester due to the pandemic, and hosts programs for middle and high school students in the summer. I agree with you - if they want to prioritize teachers and school staff, they should have prioritized universities.

Merck isn't doing it for the country. The Defense Production Act was invoked to get this "cooperation" between rivals.

I'm sure Merck is making money while doing this as well.

Not many big players in the vaccine world with appropriate facilities and capacity. Novartis is manufacturing BioNTec/Pfizer vaccine.

The injection site is a little sore, but that’s all. I guess the 2nd dose hurts more.

Same here. I also got the chills and just a bit wiped out for a day and a half. Nothing awful though. Think of a bad cold.

So you're saying that Merck was forced to do this with the Defense Production Act? I didn't see anything that said that. Do you have any links to a source that says that?

I got round 2 at around 10:30 this AM. My arm's already a bit sore (this is sooner than the 1st dose which didn't hurt till later at night and I had the shot at 7:30am). Not looking forward to tomorrow.

Yeah 1st shot, didn't feel the (mild) soreness until the next day. 2nd shot, I felt it sometime that afternoon. Woke up it was a lot worse, and had moved throughout my body. 2 words. Hydrate and Tylenol.
