Snow days are also public health emergencies.

So I finally came down with some covid symptoms and decided to get a test.

HA

- CVS... booked indefinitely,
- Walgreens .. booked indefinitely
- Care well, may not have any tests left but you can pay them for a visit while they check.
- doctor sent me to a hot line, took 30 minutes to get anyone to respond when they did they took my name, and told me they would have someone call me, but they were very backed up.

Honestly?

Same boat in the sense of no matter what he does (leave things open or close things) he will upset 50% of the population.

Close restaurants, bars, and casinos, you upset those people.

Leave them open, and people want things closed.

A no win situation, that someone will dislike the choice he makes.

Its not about just "dislike", of course.

There are people trying to separate the "economy" from "public health" concerns. You simply cannot do that in our hypercapitalist society. The "they chose the economy over public health!" dichotomy peddlers are just clueless.

People don't have jobs, well, under our ridiculous system that generally means they also don't have health insurance.

People don't get paychecks? They can't afford food and often rent. Both these things leads to negative health outcomes. Even if they have food and can get by on rent, somehow, the stress levels increase, mental health worsens, and yes, these have real short and long term direct health impacts.

Public health and the economy, in our society probably more than any other western democracy, are directly tied together. It's a crap system for sure, but incredibly difficult to navigate.

Test availability or not, hopefully you're isolating and monitoring your symptoms very closely. A close acquaintance continued to test negative, even as she was admitted to the hospital and put on O2...it was presumed Covid because of other factors, but only the antibodies test conducted much later came back positive.

Sure, there are ways to get some health care. Several friends have found themselves on medicaid due to this... but the coverage is... well, barely better than nothing. They're basically skr*wed.

You can also get food at food banks and food kitchens.

There are homeless shelters too.

Doesn't mean that the impacts of being without insurance and health care or an apartment do no impact a person's mental and physical health.

There are some things in life you have to earn.

Oh good, platitudes, that really freaking helps out.

And, how do people earn those things when their jobs/businesses are closed and their avenues to "earn" are shut off?

Maybe we should tell them to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps"?
