It's a matter of personal preference. I personally find the winter weather the only thing appealing in FL over MA.

Im not that familiar with FL. But weather is very important to many. The cold weather can really stink and I think many wonder why they pay what they do to live here when they don't get good weather 6 months out of the year. I don't enjoy the winter but I won't be leaving MA most likely.

90th percentile household net worth for age 65-69 is about $2 million including home equity. 95th percentile is $4 million. That's nationally. Boston is significantly higher. There are plenty of retirees would could afford an urban pied a terre.

Ocala, FL, seems to be pulling the insane folks from all over the country.

Different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't expect liberal folks in MA to ever want to move to FL.

Not accurate at all. Naples/East Naples has long been a retirement destination for Boston people, to the point of where the term "Boston South" has been coined in reference to it. Lots of New Englanders in Fort Meyers, Sarasota, Northport, etc.

Yep. In my father's generation, most people I know ended up west coast. There were probably 20 couples from my town on Longboat Key.

yea I think MA people go to the west coast of Florida, unless they're of latin/caribeean origin. Which is a smaller newer phenomenon.

NJ/NYers go towards Miami.

I also think that's a big piece of the picture here. People aren't leaving JUST because of the taxes. They are paying taxes on top of a very high COL.
Not necessary wealthy. They are often downgrading in size of property. It’s not always luxury condos too.
Cost of living is high mostly if you need to pay ever rising rent or just bought a house. If your house/condo is paid off other things are not as expensive. I noticed that in Florida even though Real estate is cheaper, condo fees on average are higher.
