Hey all, I am going to be possibly moving to the area soon and need help on finding a place to live. I don't have too many requirements except for shortish commute to work. I am trying to keep the rent under 2k for a 1 bdrm. I will be moving by myself. Which areas should I be looking at? Am I priced out? The job is offering a starting pay of 75k. I haven't counter offered yet. The job will be located in Concord. 32 yr old single male. I do hope to meet friends and date eventually but my main concern right now is getting settled and acclimated to the area. I will worry about those things on the next move.

As a former resident of adjoining Littleton, I happily suggest you rent in Concord. Your budget is fine and Concord is a great town in so many ways. Sort of an offshoot in ways of Cambridge, which is well accessible by Route 2. Best wishes on your move!

Isn't 2k kind of high for someone on a 75k income?

Thanks for your reply! Checking Zillow, I haven't been able to find any rentals for under 2k in the Concord area. Are there any other sites that I should check that may have more results?

You could try Craigslist.

Also look at Acton, maybe Maynard. That would be cheaper. You should be able to find something there.

While not the easiest commute, though not a bad one, Waltham should be looked at for its night life and closeness to Boston.

When I made 75k, I found it hard to afford a 1k rent comfortably. Maybe you have less liabilities that I did.

I would just look in concord or the surrounding areas itself. That's the only way you'll have a truly short commute.

Avoid an inbound(AM)-outbound(PM) Route 2 commute - that can be a real slog especially with the rotary.

Commuter Rail could be an option from Porter Square, Waverly, Waltham etc too.

I don't think there are a lot of 1br apartments available in Waltham that are under $2k.

Edit: Ah. I was looking exclusively at places with in-unit laundry. There are a decent number ~$1.5k without.

Craigslist was always the go-to. Also check Facebook Marketplace?
