Brockton officer shot, suspect dead following hours-long standoff

https://www.wpri.com/news/local-news...long-standoff/

"BROCKTON, Mass. (WPRI) — A Brockton police officer is recovering after he was shot several times while responding to a home Thursday evening, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
Police were initially called to Taber Avenue after receiving several reports of shots fired in the area.
Cruz said the officer was shot four times by the suspect, who at the time was retreating into his home.
The officer was hit twice in his bulletproof vest, according to Cruz, while the two other bullets grazed his hand and leg.
The officer was rushed to Boston Medical Center with injuries that aren’t believed to be life threatening, Cruz said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and we are very thankful that he is in Boston Medical Center right now,” Brockton Mayor Robert Sullivan said. “This shows the serious nature of law enforcement. We have very brave men and women that serve Brockton police every single day.”
The shooting led to an hours-long standoff between the suspect and police, which Cruz said ended when he shot himself outside of his home.
Cruz said the suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead."

Update: Another man has been found shot dead in a car parked next to the house. Two now reported dead.

Also it looks like it happened near the intersection of Taber Ave. and Court St.. This is close to Downtown Brockton.

Interesting that it had been quiet and then there's a deadly shooting in mattapan and Brockton.

"quiet" there was a shooting in Roxbury the day before, and Dorchester the day before that. There really is shooting pretty much every day in Boston or Brockton but rarely are they fatal and usually they miss.

We'll be seeing a lot more of this once wu's green new equity East San Francisco justice results in a whole lot of condo conversions, and a whole lot of section 8 renters getting booted out to all the brocktons and lawrences out there.

That has already been happening for a good 25-30 years already. Brockton started going downhill after Boston and partly because Boston was becoming less affordable as the decades went by. Then after Brockton, Randolph, Avon, Holbrook, and Stoughton started going downhill too. We're just seeing the continued shift of low income housing out into the less desirable suburbs and exurbs, nothing new yet. I have personally known Brockton to be rough for the past quarter of a century. I knew people from college and from work who either lived or worked there and they all knew it can be rough. That isn't stopping me from visiting my favorite shopping mall, the Westgate Mall, D.W. Field Park, the Fuller Crafts Museum, and other parts of Brockton however.

Things will get a lot worse - what used to be a steady trickle of working poor who might have been rough around the edges but weren’t exactly known for violence being gentrified out of their gritty-looking but not that violent neighborhoods you will have a deluge of section 8 renters from places known for very high concentration of Universalhub orange dots once wu’s “no new construction unless everything is $500/month” plan goes into effect.

Boston is going to continue to gentrify regardless of who is Mayor du jour. The housing stock is more valuable as luxury rentals and condo conversions. Privately owned housing units will inevitably boot out the Section 8 tenants. That’s been the sustained trend since 1980.

We currently have enough new construction happening to keep up with at least some of the demand on the upper end and prevent every single triple-decker from getting turned into condos - gentrification is still happening but it’s a trickle, not a deluge, especially in less desirable neighborhoods. Stop all new construction dead in its tracks which is essentially what wu’s housing policy is once you toss aside the fairy tales and you will open up the gentrification flood gates.

Officer has been released from the hospital. Dead suspect has been identified. Kevin Serpa, age 32. Other victim was 28 year-old Christopher Gomes of Brockton.

Also this happened at 62 Taber Ave., where Serpa apparently lived.
