I just heard on NPR that he has been in Washington for 46 of his 76 years. Since he was 30?? That is just amazing.

Ted Kennedy was a champion of basic human rights. It doesn't get any more basic than COMPLETE health care reform. I might not have agreed on some other issues, but to him it was about the people- first, last, and always.

Default my thoughts

i wish senator kennedy the fullest and swiftest recovery possible. cancer is awful, i wouldn't wish it on anyone!

i did wonder however if he would ever consider seeking treatment in places with supposedly better healthcare, such as cuba, england, canada, north korea? socialized medicine cannot compete with even our semi-free system.

seriously, i hope he is able to completely recover. shocking news.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Senator Kennedy and his family. He is a true icon. Many tragedies and heart aches have come his way, and yet he is still standing, still serving, and still advocating causes that will make life better for all of us.

I will never forget an interview with him on one of the networks about a year after JFK Jr's death. He was walking on the shore in Cape Cod, not far from the family compound. He laughed and shared a few family stories, sang an Irish ballad or two, and then, when asked about JFK Jr, his eyes filled with tears and his voice broke. So much grief in his lifetime, yet he has never lost faith or courage. I wish I had a fraction of the belief and vision of this dear man.

Although he has been called the Liberal Lion, Sen. Kenndey has managed to forge deep friendships with colleagues on both sides of the aisle. That is quite something in this time of political divide. Godspeed, Teddy.

Thoughts and prayers go to Teddy and his family. It seems the Kennedy family is always being "tested". Truly a great American Family.

Yes, being able to afford the best health care possible I too wondered if he'd seek treatment in Cuba. I'm assuming he didn't have time to await Obama or Hillary's fixing of the system.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery from the illness . . . . and many long years relaxing on his social security retirement.

He has come a long way, considering his age and having such a complicated surgery.

I had the distinct privilege of working as an ICU nurse on the Neurosurgical Unit at Duke. You will not find a better crew.
My prayers are with Senator Kennedy and his family--all night.
They may not know that when you become a patient, you also become one of our family. He is one of us, now--we do care. We are with him in thoughts and prayers, we are with his family, and we are truly concerned.
I may be retired, but I know: Unit 4200 stands ready.
