My husband and I are looking to relocate in the next 5 years to a coastal town in MA (not including Cape Cod.) We are in our 50s. Schools will not be a factor, but we’re looking for an otherwise very nice, very pretty town. Our budget will probably be 500 to 800k. We love Portsmouth and Kittery, so those will be in the running, but I’d love to hear the names of MA towns that we should look into.

Thank you!

I live on the North Shore but I would probably recommend South Coast towns like Westport, Dartmouth, Marion, etc. Those towns have better weather than Cape Ann: spring starts earlier and fall ends later.

If you love Portsmouth, Newburyport, MA has a very similar vibe. Agree with others on the Rockport, Gloucester, Essex, Ipswich, Manchester, Salem, and Beverly/Beverly Farms recommendations as well. Oh, and there's also Swampscott and Marblehead which are both very nice coastal towns as well. You really can't go wrong in any of these places.

Thanks for the recommendations!! I will look into them all.

No one mentioned Scituate or Kingston. Is that because they’re oriented more towards families with school-age children?

Thanks again! I appreciate your taking the time!

No Scituate or Marshfield would be plenty nice (not sure Kingston is really "coastal"???) as would Plymouth. So far only North Shore people have replied, it would be treasonous for them to recommend anything South Shore (and vice versa) so hence the replies so far.
