Did I ever say what part of the LGBT community I am? You are making assumptions. I am bisexual.

If this is naivety, it is a naivety that everyone around me shares. The idea of moving to New England was started by my own parents, and my friends and everyone else understand why I want to do this.

Of course I'll visit, not just fly a plane and move somewhere I've never been. That is the plan as I've mentioned in this topic numerous times.

FYI There really is no LGB community.
Much less a one with a 'T'.

Good luck following your dream... you're gonna need it.

I suppose it's just an expression, IDK. It's sad. I do consider myself to have kinship with my friends who are LGBT, including gay men, lesbian women, bi people, pan people, trans men/women, and nonbinary people.

Also, of course, I know all about the TERFs and trying to exclude trans people, but that's a discussion for another topic. One thing I know for sure, though, is that the force in politics in the US that is taking away trans rights wants to do the same with rights for sexual orientation as well.

I know that all too well. I need a miracle. But I don't believe in any kind of deity, so... =/

If you can manage to make it work in Northampton, somehiow, I think you'd fit right in here. We'd welcome you.

And all due respect a lot of that Unity isn't really a thing later on. I've met and worked with plenty of people that are gay and I can tell you that most of them don't participate in parades that it's not that big of a deal anymore. I worked with people that were trans 15 or so years ago and again it's not that big of a deal. Same-sex marriage is the law of the land and adoptions are legal and it's treated as equal.

Some people have a stereotype of those in New England being liberal and to the far left. You will get some of that may be in undeveloped areas of Western Mass mostly because they want more money. In the end it's always about the money and development in Access. A same-sex couple with a few kids living in the 128 belt certainly is not going to be participating in a form of a parade, they don't need to. New England is not California. You're not going to shame somebody about not going to some protesters parade. A lot of people really just want to be left alone and they *do* leave each other alone.

Despite what some may tell you the humanities is not create far left liberals. It's usually your hard Sciences. The reason being is that where you actually have to be accountable to a given board or group of people that usually means Humanities. When you drilled down empirical facts and think that everybody should perform your policy the way you see it that's a perfect world and that's ignorant of politics and budgeting process how many people think that Noam Chomsky teaches political science at MIT? He's never taught that but he keeps publishing books to imply that he does. My girlfriend teaches English and she started to look up some authors that claim to have some legitimacy of perspective of living in an area and writing about it to the point where they just only live there for a few years.

I'm all for tolerance peace and tranquility but please don't think that moving to Massachusetts or New England as a whole is like San Francisco where someone will drop everything to join the parade or protest

Now is a great time to visit Northampton too, with all the restaurants and coffee shops opening up their outdoor seating and Strong Ave closed for vehicles and open for foot traffic only. The weather is shaping up, there is music in the streets, the trees are starting to bud, everyone is out on the trails, bike paths and in the parks. It's a great time of year to be in Northampton.

Hope you stopped by Treehouse on your way back, going way out to Northampton and not loading up on Treehouse should be classified as a felony at the very least.

That's a seriously mistaken idea. GLBTQ and all oppressed groups have community almost by definition; individual members of oppressed groups have the oppression in common with one another-- that they all know it, experience it, have grieved together when someone is beaten or killed out of homophobia or racism or misogyny. They're together in the fight to expand rights and recognition and oppose legislation and judicial decisions that restrict rights. If anyone, it's the regular white heteros living in their isolated suburban houses who lack community. Despite all the rugged individualist 'I've got mine' values in this society people need community. For those who feel alone it can show up in perverse forms, like becoming an 'incel' when you can't get a date, or joining the Klan/white nationalist groups who convince themselves that white people are an oppressed group just so they too can feel part of some community.

Nasty comment: Why shouldn't OP or anyone else move from one state to another-- something US people have been doing forever?
