My cihldren and I will be spending a day in Deerfield next week. What is there to do that's inexpensive/free and suitable for a 5 and 7 year old? Thanks!

You could take them to the museum in Historic Deerfield -- not through any of the houses but just the museum to see the door that has the Indian hatchet mark in it and things like that. They'd also get a chance to run around outside -- good if you've been traveling.

There are some cute shops on rte 5/10 for ice cream and little toys and of course, if it's still there, Yankee Candle in S. Deerfield -- that's great for kids.

Yankee Candle is a lot of fun for kids. I was appalled at the idea, but my kids loved it. Also, there is 'Magic Wings', a butterflyatorium that a lot of kids enjoy. There is some sort of dinosaur museum/shop that I have not checked out yet, but may be worth it.

Ooh, I loove Yankee Candles... I figured that would be way too boring for my kids, but maybe they would like it... I'll look into it. And the butterfly thing sounds great too. Thanks!
