Hi!

My partner and I are possibly relocating to the Springfield area for a job. We are not, however, insistent upon living in Springfield! Basically, we'd like to live less than half an hour away from the job, which is right in the middle of Springfield itself (if I get it), but don't necessarily care whether it's in CT or Mass. Any suggestions? We will probably be renting first, but we'd rather rent a house/townhouse than an apartment, because we have pets.

What areas would you suggest? We love Northampton, but I'm not sure what's around the area or whether it's affordable. We aren't at all picky about the size of our place, either. We just want somewhere that is relatively safe!

Thanks so much.

HellO!First of all I am so glad to hear you are considering a move to Springfield! I can tell you loads about the neighborhoods in Springfield! The two gems are Historic McKnight and Historic Forest Park. Both are on the national historic registar and contain some of the most elegant homes in New England. Amazing victorians that range from mid-size to four story mansions. Prices in those neighborhoods depend on the condition of the home, you can find a fixer upper or a completely restored home. Prices range from $100,000 to $500,000. If you are renting then the historic areas are your best bet because there are many victorians that were originally duplexes or have been converted. You can also occasionally find a whole house to rent. Also downtown there are several luxury condos downtown. Other nice areas include sixteen acres and east forest park which contain smaller cape style and split level homes plus a lot of new construction. Prices there range from $100,000 to $250,000. Take a look at choosespringfieldmass.com and springfieldcityhall.com for more. Feel free to post back with any questions and again thank you for considering our great city!
