I pay about $100 a month and I think that is too much. I know some people pay much more, but still this mandatory nightmare serves the insurance companies interests and is pain for the low income budget individuals, especially in the state of Taxachusetts.

I pay $77 a month through Commonwealth Care. They claim I'm supposed to be able to afford that. Being that I get paid barely enough to pay basic living expenses and my student loan, I disagree. The mandatory health insurance thing would be a great idea if affordable health insurance existed. I wish we had real universal health care instead.

That is exactly my point: You pay $77 a month for nothing. You pay $77 only to satisfy your commonwealth law, only to be a good citizen and not violate the law. But if something happens with you and you need to go to hospital you'll have to pay a huge amount of money, because that basic insurance of $77 a month does cover almost nothing.

$77 - $100 a month is not an exorbitant amount of money for health insurance. The only way you'd get something cheaper is to be covered by an employer who paid all or most of your premium. Have you ever priced private health insurance????

I understand that's cheap for health insurance. But it's still a struggle to pay when you barely make enough to pay for rent, utilities, and food.

So what you'd prefer to do if unfortunately you got in a traffic accident or injured somehow is to have everyone else pay for it, or should they just leave on the side of the street?

Health Insurance in the USA is a ****ing scam and is there so the wealthy dont have to put their money into a pool like every 1st and 2nd world nation on the planet and the Insurance companies are able to profit off the system while providing absolutley NOTHING! (Other then making sure the wealthy get to save money in taxes)

I know my life was destroyed by not having any health care and I am bitter about it

I read somewhere that a majority of bankruptcies are the result of medical expenses. I think healthcare insurance is more important than life insurance. Anyone without healthcare insurance is one accident away from being a financial basketcase.

The point is that even with a health insurance you still have to pay pay a lot of money if you need medical treatment. So why to pay 70-100 bucks a month and get nothing while you can pay 0 and still get nothing. It doesn't make sense. In order to have full coverage insurance you have to pay $ 400 - 500 a month just for an individual which is nor affordable for the huge majory of people.

That's exactly what I say. Why pay (in my case) $300 a month for nothing when I can pay nothing and still get nothing?
