Listen, Amesbury spends the equivalent of 11K per student and by the stats has a 14 students to one teacher ratio. The MCAS scores for the last 2 years have Amesbury grades 3-8 "in need of restructuring." 2010 is the last year for the schools to bring it up or be taken over by the state. BTW: the mayor awarded the Superintendent of Schools a total of 60K over the last 4 years while this disaster took place.

As a teacher, I agree with a few points made. First, no matter where your children go to school, it's important for parents to be involved in their education. Secondly, being house poor and stressed out by moving to an expensive town is not worth it. Financial stress causes children to have difficulty in school. I agree that any of the top 100 towns in MA provide a solid education for our children and it is the job of parents to get involved and work together with the schools.

It's all what you make of it. Look at the teacher/student ratio, size of the school (will my kids be comfortable there?), courses offered, AP classes, social atmosphere, safety etc. Simply choosing a district because it has a slighlty higher MCAS score is idiodic. Most towns offer enough opportunites that will allow students to thrive if they so choose. I know this sounds a little idealistic, but it's true.
