I have stumbled across some real estate listing in Northbridge and they look fantastic...much more reasonably priced than the surrounding areas. I'm wondering why? HOw are the schools and amenities there? We have three kids 11, 8, and 5.
Thanks!

Oelschlegal Lane-I knew the late Ed Oelschlegal, who grew up on a farm there. The name of the street was changed to Mahoney Lane a few years ago. It runs off Rte 122/Providence Road in the Rockdale section of Northbridge, near the Grafton town line.

Northbridge was known as a mill town back in the day. For the last two decades, it has become more of a bedroom community for those commuting to Worcester, Providence and Boston, as a result of rising prices in Metro West. It's a little cheaper than some of the surrounding areas for a number of reasons. Many pople still think of it as a "mill town", and might consider it less desirable (even though most of those jobs have gone to China). Neighboring Sutton, for example has a two acre minimum per lot, to drive up the prices (aka "snob zoning"). Grafton and Upton have easier access to 495 and the Mass Pike, and are considered more desirable. The schools are good (not great) although surrounding towns might have a better reputation. You can log onto greatschools.com for more info on test scores, etc. The sports are pretty stong, too. A former coworker of mine had her kids in Whitinsville Christian School, but pulled her kids out when $$$ became tight. To her surprise, she actually thought they received a better education in the Northbridge public schools. They have a fairly new high school with great facilities. Northbridge is a very family friendly town.

Northbridge is nice, in the sticks but almost in the middle between Worcester and Rhode Island.
And close to 146 N/S
