North Adams is very rundown and there isn't much to do here. Try looking into Pittsfield or Williamstown.

North Adams is nice if you dont mind crack addicts, theives and wanna be gangsters. I grew up there and know the place has nothing to offer.

North Adams has its ups and downs. Personally I like it here and stayed on after college although I may end up going to Adams instead.

I also am thinking of moving to N. Adams. I had higher hopes before reading some of these comments. I don't like the sound of it being a place a lot of teachers, artist and writers and the like are retiring. I can't stand the liberal artsy crowd. Can't stand libs in general! If they only knew they were ushering in a thousand years of communist/fascist darkness. And they think they're the enlightened informed ones! Har de har har!

If I had my druthers, I would probably have made Williamstown my home, but no way could I afford "The Village Beautiful". Adams is becoming quite popular with retired craftsmen, teachers and writers, I've noticed.

Nice article in the NYTimes this week about how old mill towns are being restored. All I can say it's about time as these marvelous old mill buildings would make great loft homes for retirees like us who want a place without any yard work and a coffee shop on the ground floor.

Are there any such loft living places in North Adams .... or other restored mill towns?

I grew up in the Berkshires and everyone (teenagers) made incest/cousin jokes about people from North Adams.

The Berkshires in general are a nice place to raise a family if you don't mind the cold and the snow and lack of things to do for entertainment. Cheap houses, no traffic, pretty fall leaves, winter wonderland, pretty spring and summer. I do miss it sometimes when I'm caught in rush hour in eastern MA.
