Hello,

I just accepted a job in Windsor Locks, CT (Currently I live in the Michigan) and from what I hear a lot of people that work there resides outside of Springfield.

Several Questions:

What are some good cities to live in that have great schools?

How does the tax thing work? I will have to pay CT state taxes on my income and property taxes on my home, correct?

Also, which state has the lowest sales tax and property tax rate?

Should I live in CT or MA?

Please help, I'am so confused!

Enfield, CT is pretty nice. I have relatives there and it is right next to the MA border. Southwick, MA is really nice, but would be a farther drive to Windsor Locks.

I have heard that yes, Enfield is nice, but housing is expensive. Most other CT communities adjacent to the Western Mass border fall in the same category, but I'm sure there are exceptions. Depending on your income, housing prices may or may not be an issue. Basic info on any community is available via City-Data.com For Massachusetts I'd recommend maybe Southwick, Agawam/Feeding Hills, West Springfield. These communities allow a pretty direct commute to Windsor Locks. Travel time between 30 to 45 mins. These three communities are all descent. Some sections are nicer than others, just like any other town. Here's a link for income tax info for MA Massachusetts state taxes I'd ask a tax professional regarding how taxes relate to you if you're working in CT, but living in MA. Keep in mind that although a community may have a low real estate tax rate, a high assessment value (determined by the community) can easily ruin any expectation of low taxes. For example, I have heard that Agawam vs West Spfld's property taxes, Agawam is a better deal. It's up to you, but I'd be hesitant living in the city of Springfield. Being a larger city means higher payments on, for example, car insurance. There are some ok areas to live in, but living expenses may catch you off guard.
