Most likely not. Some towns allow it under certain circumstances for instance to finish the school year after a move. But most towns will not let you do it. Some towns don't even allow you to stay in the same school if the street changes and you fall in a different zone.
That is the whole argument about true school choice and how it affects your town, taxes, transportation etc.
Actually, the Chelmsford School Committee just voted to use a school choice opt in pilot for Chelmsford High School. It is available to those students entering grades 9 and 10--I believe that the pilot is for a very limited number of students. In addition, you would be responsible for your child's transportation.
