I'ld leave the stuff behind, sell it, and purchase again on Maui. You're only choice for shipping is Matson to Oahu, then Young Brothers to Maui. If you are shipping that large a mirror you would want to crate and pad the heck out of it. Upcountry is very nice, Kula, Ulupalakua, Pukalani, Makawao, especially Olinda, although the road going up there absolutely sucks, and will kill your suspension pretty quickly. If you'll be working in town, Wailkuku or Kahului, expect a lot of traffic coming and going. Best of luck!

Check prices with Matson. Depending on how much you plan to bring (I know hair salon supplies can be expensive), you can ship it all in a crate or, if it is small enough, you can ship parcel post with the post office. It's basically up to you, after you check prices, to decide whether it is cheaper to ship everything or sell and re-buy.

The best place I've found for home rentals is craigslist and mauinews.com. Since you have pets, you'll have to look at places that will allow them. That will narrow down your search quite a bit.

Make sure that you have several thousand dollars worth of disposible income when you move. It cost us about $8,000 by the time we paid for all the shipping, moving, deposits, food/gas, etc. to when we got our first paycheck. Make sure you budget out your money and know where it will be going. The less surprises, the better. Best of luck!!!
