Could someone tell me the status of this facility? I have read it is still on track and then I have read that " a hospital" was planned and then dropped because of lack of cooperation from the state. The name of the project was not mentioned so I am not sure if they are one in the same.

Any updated accurate info would be greatly appreciated.

Weird. Their website acts as if they're already active but read on---their target date is 2013.
I'll believe it when I see it. This stuff has been going on for at least ten years.

West Maui Hospital and Medical Center, Newport Hospital Corporation

Reminds me a bit of Kahuku Hospital on the North Shore of Oahu and Waianae Comp on the West side of Oahu, only newer.

The Maui facility would be a "critical access" hospital and a nursing home, certainly not a full-service hospital. Any illness/injury of any complexity at all will most certainly be shipped to Maui Memorial or on to Oahu.
Basically, a stabilize, pack 'em up, and ship 'em out kind of place. Better than nothing and life-savers for sure but not anywhere near the care that would be available in a "real" hospital.

Here's an article where the developers predicted a March 2012 opening---didn't happen:

I couldn't sit through the videos on this website but they might hold some more recent info for you:
