Well, we might go 6mo in Chicago/4 mo in Maui afterall... that gives us flexibility to spend some winters in MX, PR, DR and some of our other favorite spots.

We are in Maui in 10 days actually, to see the whales on a long break. Might browse some popular vac. rental properties, gage the drives, talk to local gym/shop etc owners maybe.
On jobs, I get the *it's who you know* concept (grew up in Eastern Europe)...
We make friends/network and are easy to like, in general

You won't be able to find work as an electrician, period. Not only is there no demand right now, but none of the local firms will hire someone new to the Island. It's not so much 'who you know' as it is common sense. As far as the whales are concerned, in about 30 years of paddling the shore line of south maui, i have NEVER seen so many whales. Literally had to paddle around a couple of them about a half mile off the grand wailea the other morning... There was a lot of heavy breathing going on......... Wonder what they were up to?

The ocean off Wailea, XXXX rated

Heh, oh well - thanks Jung-J... wow, tough luck.
No problem... timing is everything so we can wait a couple of years, if ever consider moving.
Things are going pretty well in Chicago, so we might stay put for a bit.

Can you tell whales to hang on please... Do you think there is same abundance in West Maui?
Can't wait. Last Feb was good too - we captured a coveted sunset breach of a young guy just some hundred + yards from Maui Kai lanai.

Off topic, but. Cruised down to Foodland the other morning, around 530a.. Had my paddling gear in the truck, was going to go out, but high surf warnings were up for the west side of the Island. Stopped at Kamaole beach park 1 on my way home.. Full moon was about 20 degrees above the horizon, crystal clear skies, absolutely still, moon so bright the beam of reflected light stretched from the horizon to the shore.. So, I'm standing in front of my truck, and in the moonbeam was a whale calf, couple hundred yards offshore, breeching, cleared the water completely a couple times.. I swear to God, sometimes I think my time on Maui is about pau, but, moments like that, I might stay another year... Who knows. Been debating whether or not to stay here for about 38 years now... It's decisions like that which shouldn't be hurried. And, I'm pretty sure that was the same whale calf that almost ran me down off Wailea, kolohe little sucker

aloha

I can see that.... mahalo for sharing!
Whales got us too. The turtles, the fish... occasional monk seal.
Why are you thinking to go - costs, etc?

no real timeline - if we did, probably a in a couple to five years?
we don't really NEED to, but it would be great so we entertain the idea now and then.
my husband has much more flexible work then i do.
maybe I will send him off for a couple of month, to look for a gig.
we will have enough from our rental property to cover housing, so just need some descent spening money I guess, without dipping too much into savings.

have no issues living simlpy - smaller place, one car, less eating out. we shall see.
this trip we will explore more of the island and what's what.
