Nice game playing with words. The absurd part is you stating that because they "came over in canoes" they are not "native". You may want to learn what the term means.

Native - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Freebies for Indians - hmmm, exempt from state income taxes - casino payouts......we can start with that.
I figured you'd make some sweeping statement rather than specifics. Yes, how horrible that Indians living on their native lands (reservations), that make their living from reservation sources, not have to pay state income taxes.

Hopefully you're deeply concerned about the countless tax breaks (freebies) people and corporations all over the country get for countless things? Or does your disdain only apply when it involves those you deem unworthy? You know, the "lazy people". The ones not like you.

Not "only" just the lazy - but it is high on the list. I also have quite a bit of disdain for drug addicts, murderers, pedophiles, car thieves, people who expect handouts, etc......

I've even got disdain for people who don't even live in Hawaii but feel the need to comment on it like they do.

Does it extend to the uneducated who don't know what the term native means?

I actually thought you were joking since the definition you supplied implies everyone born in Hawaii implies "Native" - but I guess you weren't - thank you for proving my point, again.

Hmmm i see. Does that include those who use force to get what they want? Like kill millions of people without just buying the land or aina?Hmmm obviously not. So maybe you need to be more specifc?

As for the "I've even got disdain for people who don't even live in Hawaii but feel the need to comment on it like they do" Well its funny how you bring that up. I have disdain for people who feel by just living on hawaii taking up space without embracing the cultures, customs or real issues that make hawaii what it is has any right to judge whos experience is legitimate or whos is not? Past, present or future. JMHO. Oh your privilege is showing.

Care to be specific - hard to tell without specifics if I would have disdain for them or not.

Should I have added a disclaimer as I did here to help you? Did I err by assuming you'd have the ability to connect the obvious? I'd hoped that you'd be able to make it from point A to point B on your own.

My purpose in pointing you to the definition was in trying to help you grasp that the word has multiple meanings, and that when applied to a people it is a relative term that does not mean "from the beginning of time", or "where people evolved from", which would appear to be what you think it means from your statement:

Quote:
lets not kid ourselves, Native Hawaiian are not "Native" - they are simply descendants of South Pacific Islanders who happened to stumble on Hawaii in a bunch of canoes.
At this point I'm going to assume you are genuinely unaware of the fact that scientists believe we all likely migrated out of Africa, and that the term native peoples doesn't mean that people did not arrive at the place being referenced at some point in time. In fact, it doesn't even have to mean they were the first there. Or perhaps you think there is some magic number for how many thousand of years a people have to have been at a place to qualify as "native". In which case you'd also be wrong.

Let me know if you need any more assistance grasping the concept that it is legitimate to refer to native Hawaiians as native Hawaiians.

Thank you again for helping with my point - the entire "native" thing is a bunch of BS, whether that be Native Hawaiians or Native American Indians - and whoever else wants to label themselves as "Native" - it is just a bunch of baloney to make themselves a privileged class of people. There is no reason in 2015 for people to have special privileges just because of birth.

Unfortunately there is also no reason for people to not be granted special privileges just because of birth. It's just reality.
