I have been reading and reading what I can find before our proposed move about the health care situation on Maui. Since we are planning to move once I have finished nursing school, this is something near and dear to me. I have read a few places about possible hospitals near Lahaina, or near Kihei. Can anyone tell me if there has been anything in the local news about these? What I am finding is almost a full month old, and quite vague.

Thanks!
Meg

The state has (finally) approved a certificate of need for a small hospital in Lahaina. Here's a March 16 article about the company that's developing the hospital: W. Maui Hospital developer ‘ecstatic’ - Mauinews.com | News, Sports, Jobs, Visitor's Information - The Maui News. There hasn't been a lot of real news since then (parties to celebrate approval, etc.), but you can search the Maui News site and/or the Honolulu Star-Bulletin site and get a lot of other stories. The actual building of the hospital has not started and things here tend to take a lot longer and/or end up differently than they start out.

Default Second hospit in Maui

Well, that is something, it is finally coming true. They talked about it for years but nothing ever happened. THey sure need a hospital in Lahaina. so since the above poster wrote you live on Maui. At one time, I use to live on the SMITH ESTATE, the corner of East Lipoa and South Kihei Road, across from St. Theresa's Church. They the Smith's had the homes torn down and were going to give free rent to the new Police Headquarters and have a Medical BUilding built. But while I was still residing in Kihei nothing was ever built. That whole land is SAND and SAND goes all the way up to the highway. Can you tell me is the land still vacant?
