I do like the looks and interior of the Mazda 3. I haven't driven one, but wish the Manual 6spd was available in the sedan. The hatchback is ugly IMO. If I wanted to settle for an automatic trans, it's definitely compelling though. This segment has definitely taken a step up in luxury in the last 15 years...and gotten more expensive.
Mazda 6 looks great too. I haven't shopped cars at all in 14 years...still driving a Honda accord EX V6 MT6spd coupe. Interesting to see how things have changed. Too much technology, electronics and expensive repair issues I'm noticing (low profile tires, Turbo).

Good to see Mazda's are made in Japan now and no longer partnered w/Ford. I had an MX6 (93 I think). That was the most fun to drive car I ever had, though It spent a lot of time in the shop before I parted ways with it for things like CV boots, broken seals. Had paint issues too ( Ford issue).
