I always have the urge to honk and bike riders on 2 lane roads. If a car was going 15mph in a 40mph zone, I would probably honk at them if I couldn't get around them. Why not do it to bike riders that want to be a car?

Some people may not know this, but bike riders are held to the same laws as cars when they decide to drive in the roadway. Running red lights or stop signs on bikes could potentially get you ticketed.

Open road: Bicyclists already trying out Shelby Farms Greenline
The Commercial Appeal
By Tom Charlier

6.5-mile pedestrian and biking trail between Tillman and Shelby Farms is usable following the completion of paving work earlier this week. The completion comes about seven months after ground was broken in February. The official ribbon-cutting won't occur until Oct. 5, with formal dedication ceremonies planned four days after that.

Default A waste of money and dangerous

A whole new source of revenue for Memphis' criminal element: people with money to burn on expensive bikes & gear riding thru areas where many times they can't be seen by others.

A common fear and frequent complaint when these projects are developed in major cities, but national crime tracking data shows just the opposite, often uplifting the neighborhoods they touch.

This path will eventually have real-time MPD cameras like the ones installed on the riverwalk downtown. These issues have been addressed long in advance. Miserables said the same thing about the popular Vollintine-Evergreen Greenline on the north side of Midtown and it is simply not the case.

Wharton Outlines Vision for High Fitness Areas

BILL DRIES | The Daily News

Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. is suggesting the idea of “high fitness areas” where lots of people jog, walk and ride bikes. Wharton pitched the idea at a Monday meeting at Otherlands Coffee Bar with the grassroots coalition Livable Memphis and other groups pushing for more bicycle lanes and pedestrian-friendly streetscapes.

Saw that. It's a good sign. Much better than preserving the status quo.
