I'm wondering are there an inexpensive ,safe , rural areas that are perhaps 30-40 minutes from memphis?

By "areas" do you mean organized towns or small unincorporated communities or farming areas? Also, are you talking commute to Memphis?

There're lots of each in all directions...way too many to attempt to list.

I'd start by seeing if this helps - Any quaint little towns around Memphis?

FYI, we have a home for sale between Somerville and Moscow, mini-farm...we are going to take self-defence, buy a gun and move into town..well not really... but out here you dont have to lock your doors...

If I have to keep just one area and let the rest go, I'd look at the small community of Brunswick, TN, just east up Hy 70. It's the right distance, has much of the rural feel and has a little of everything you seem to be asking about.

That sounds good to me. I live on Lomg Island, ny. We can not afford to me live here any more. My childern are here but thats about all I'll miss. Lived upstate NY when i was child. Small towm at heart.

Munford and Atoka are two nice towns where I grew up. My folks still live back there. Wonderful rural towns, safe, low crime, lots of open space, etc.
