Chasing its tail is better than crawling under a porch deck. But the metaphor isn't appropriate. Memphis, at a turtle's pace nonetheless, is making some progress.

How so? Pinnacle Airlines?? I thought Memphis was on the move when they opened Peabody place. I was wrong. Maybe I should have kept it simple. We're running in place or shuffling our feet back and forth. Either way, we're still not moving ahead.

Memphis is just trying to get back to par. A. C. is doing a good job, but expected growth is the result of that ****head being out of office for nearly two years now. Not to discredit A. C., but as long as anyone besides King Willie is in office, the city will get ****(more business)..... because it was a great city, and can still rebound... But what took Herenton 17 years to destroy is going to take half a century to rebuild.

Losing a mall is a dramatic event, I suppose, but cities lose malls sometimes. The laws of supply and demand come into play. The MoM fell on hard times when the newer, cleaner Wolfchase Galleria opened. Memphis experienced an eastward population shift, which made Wolfchase much more convenient for the region's spenders. Additionally, the MoM gained a reputation for being unsafe due to a couple of high-profile incidents there.

It happens. Malls close. The MoM came and went quickly. Just two hours west, University Mall in Little Rock experienced the same fate in a similar time span. In Nashville, 100 Oaks Mall experienced a similar fate; it has been repurposed into a shopping center and medical plaza -- but it's no longer a mall per se. Bellevue Mall in Nashville is shuttered completely. MetroCenter Mall in Jackson MS is now anchored by a Burlington Coat Factory; Jackson Mall in Jackson MS is now a medical plaza, I think. The list could go on and on.
