I am all for it. We have team members coming in from 19 states and 2 foreign countries. 10,000 dollars invested in this weekend...Cancelling was not an option. I'm glad they got a plan together, its gonna be a great year.

Default Might even be better

More centralized location........people will probably be able to see better and parking might be better....People will still go downtown for river, events, Beale, but better for traffic if cars more spread out. Think you might find that more locals come out this year for the first time in a long time also.....

Party on!

There will probably be some different locals than in previous years in attendance just because a few just won't do Downtown, so now they have a one time new venue, but part of the aura of the contest is Ol' Man River rolling along next to the BBQ area. It would decline in attendance IMO if people thought the future held no more river backdrop.
BTW the purists don't like the incorrect name BBQ Fest because there was a much smaller event here years ago called that, so World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest it is!

Considering the fact that there was no choice but to either move it or cancel it, I can't think of a better location....other than maybe Shelby Farms. I think the midtown location is more appropriate - even though I live much closer to Shelby Farms

Is it free to attend or is there an entrance fee? Is the food free too or you gotta pay for that too?

Admission is free ONLY from 11am-1pm Thursday and Friday. It is $8 after 1pm.

As for the food, the only way to get free food is to get into a team booth. The only way into a team booth is schmoozing or knowing someone on a team. All booths are private parties for the teams and their invited guests. Vendors are available for food purchases

This being said there are 2 programs that let you sample competition bbq.
Peoples choice - pay $4 for 5 samples of bbq, public votes on the winner
Cooker Caravan - FREE tours of team booths. DO THIS... It is a great program and introduces you to teams and might even get you an invite into their booth...

This 'contest' is NOT public, it's a scam of sorts...you can't buy bbq from the contestants...it's a private affair really, it's a misnomer....it's a closed event to the average person walking around...

Food is not free to attendees...you can't have any of it in the first place..

It's really like a big group of individual PRIVATE PARTIES

believe me, it's not worth the hype or your time in any respect...unless you are a part of a private team who is participating in the first place.

It's a joke

This event was never intended to entertain or impress the average person who walks in and expects some level of gratification as if he were attending a carnival or something. It was an increasingly high level competitive contest which became very popular with the public, so the participants made efforts to accomodate and include visitors, and have currently done a pretty good job of doing that. There could be no "fraud" since nothing was expected from non contestants and nothing was promised, however if a person is objective and appreciative of the efforts involved in staging this event and promoting the region's recognized prowess and production of this product, he/she should enjoy the spectacle and maybe become involved in the activities.
