With a name like "Castalia", it must have been named for an Italian person.

Frisco Yale Yard

There is still a yard there, but it is a lot smaller than it once was.

Thanks, enjoyed your link very much.

How was that neighborhood in those days? Was it still okay or was it in a steep decline? I've driven down Airways a number of times since I moved to Memphis but have never turned off Airways to explore the area.

Mom worked as a waitress at the old Grisanti's Restaurant at Airways and Lamar back in the early 1960s. I don't know if that was considered part of Castalia Heights, though.

Airways and Lamar? Wow, as a relatively recent Memphian (although I now live in Alaska), it's hard for me to imagine that area having Grisanti's. That part of town has really changed.

I grew up there on keltner cir from 78-96 i think my mom was there from 73-2002. It was a great place coming up although there was crime it was no way compared to how things are now. I drive thru there from time to time when I visit home and its terrible. Some of the same people live there and have this ghetto, street, hood mentality. The shoe repair shop and cleaners have long closed. I think the Chinese store is still there but they have new owners now (Mr and Mrs Chu I'm sure have retired or passed on who knows?) I think Bob's store is still there but his son runs the store now.
