I have been thinking about moving to Memphis for quite some time. I'm currently in southwest Florida.

The one thing that makes me apprehensive is I am not really sure what the job market is like there - specifically for B2B sales positions.

I realize that the Memphis unemployment rate is at 10.9% (it's officially >12% here) but I know there is a lot of industry in Memphis. I have had friends in other areas of the U.S. tell me that they cannot fill their sales positions - which really surprised me, given the economy - but I guess in many areas, salespeople are still in demand. I was wondering if the same might be true about Memphis.

If I had an excellent track record and good references, what are the odds of securing a sales job within 3-4 weeks if I were to move there?

I realize that it's kind of a loaded question, but I was hoping to get a handle on what the job market there was really like - obviously, I wouldn't want to make the move if a typical job search were to take, say, 3-4 months.

If anyone has any insight on this, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

It really depends on your industry. I recommend finding a job first and then moving. You could easily line up some interviews and spend a week or two exploring your options. If you happen to be in the right industry, you can do extremely well.
