DH and I are looking to get away to Memphis sometime next month for 2-3 nights without the kids. Looking for fun and/or romantic things to do together, somewhere for a nice meal and the best area to stay. We are early 30's, and clubs would be to go to for one night.

Fun:
Redbirds game (if the season is still going?)
Bar hopping on Beale St.
Memphis Zoo is a must see

Meal:
Huey's burgers are regularly voted "Best Burger" in Memphis and the atmosphere is cool
Rendevouz is a popular restaurant for tourists (ribs, etc)
Central BBQ is good

Romantic:
Walking near the river
Horse carriage rides downtown

I'm not sure about best places to stay. I'm happy with any Marriott or Hampton Inn, but alot of people say Peabody is the best place to stay. I stayed there once and didn't think the rooms were that great. The lobby was nice.

For romantic you can do a roof top dinner at sunset at either The Madison or The Peabody, not sure which one excatly.

Actually the rooftop gatherings at The Peabody and The Madison are entertainment oriented with the restaurants being downstairs, but if you book a room at the 12 floor Residence Inn Downtown which is right in between them on a thursday night for another month or so you get their Sunset Rooftop Memphis BBQ with a bunch more grilled vegies and meats, wine & beer and stuff free for guests. Also it has a great hot tub up there facing out over the MS River & AR Delta.
I would have bet that the Hunt Phelan Inn is a good candlelit dining spot down on Beale St. until my wife and I tried it out - not so much!
Both Felicia Suzannes and Flight Restaurants fill the bill for candlelight and great service. They are on the Main St. Trolley Line right at Monroe.
The River Inn on Mud Island has nice rooms and good food in Paulette's downstairs, but you pay a premium for them.

Memphis Riverboats, Over 50 Years in Memphis

Memphis Flyer is a good source for special events that might interest you. Maybe not quite so much romantic, but they sound like fun!
