I've heard Southwest is a friendlier and slightly cheaper airline than others. I'm looking forward to it, especially if they pick up all of Airtran's routes.

My wife and I are willing to drive to Little Rock & Nashville to fly on Southwest, so this is pretty good news for us. No damn bag fees, and the ability to transfer tickets/flights. Too bad it will probably take 2 years for it to get up and running.

Though this is good news for those who travel, we must remember that we only have the ATL flight out by AirTran. What I'd really like to see is SWA come to their senses and combine the LR and Nashville focus cities into MEM, though I don't see that as the most likely scenario.

Good news for consumers here in Memphis. Memphis Int'l is notorious for having high fares. It's really good news for the Airport Authority. They'll definitely have more passenger traffic now.

We do have one of the best-run airports in the nation. Given our size, we have impressive connections, a transoceanic international nonstop flight, a few other continental international flights, not to mention impressive infrastructure through the FedEx hub. Hopefully, this is the start of increased Southwest service, but it does not threaten our Delta hub. And hopefully the improvements in parking and rentals will lead to further improvements in the corridors for the visitor experience. The only thing I'm really disappointed in is that the parking garage will block the airport's facade, and that the parking garage did not try to extend the martini glass theme so that the trademark look isn't covered up.

Especially if they expand service. i don't know what the numbers are for Memphians using LIttle Rock and Nashville, but I'd expect their numbers to dip slightly and our O/D to rise as a result of Memphians sticking around to use MEM. But it will require increased destinations to really make an impact on those numbers. Too bad for Bette Bus.
