Can anyone give me info on the are surrounding Carver High School? I am interested in purchasing a home on Hanauer St. as an investment to either rehab and flip or rent out for income.

Thanks,
Scott.
P.S. I am white and from California.

Not good to live in? Not good to spend a few weeks working on a property? Not good to drive through? All of the above?

It's a ghetto. No point in flipping a house there. The renters would be less than desirable. I would not drive my car into that area of town, let alone live there.

As a general rule here, if an address is in the vicinity of streets named for states, it's best to turn the other direction immediately.

I could buy a house for $4k spend another $3-4K and bring it back up to its assessed value of $28K sell it for $16-18K and be done with it. Not worth it?

Not worth it. The trick would be selling it. If it were such a good bargain, it would have sold locally already. Have you actually been here to see the property and the area it's in? Trust those of us who have been here a while (some of us nearly 40 years). The area is bad and has been bad as long as I can remember (which is a considerable amount of time.)

I would drive through it...with my doors locked. But, there's not a real reason just to drive through the area. It's not convenient or a short-cut for anywhere you may want to be. Don't live there, don't spend much time there.
