We are looking at a house for rent over in that area, but don't know much about it. I have not lived that way since I was a child. It wasn't a great area then, but I'm wondering if 20 years has changed the area in a positive way.

It's not a very good area. It has it's pockets, but overall not very good.

The Normal Station neighborhood (northeast side of that intersection) is still good for the most part, in my opinion. The other three corners of the intersection definitely have issues. I'd be particularly cautious with anything west of Highland on the Park Ave. corridor.

I would recommend the area called Sherwood Forest. It's off Park Ave. near Pete & Sams. Very decent 2 bed 1 bath and 3 bed 2 bath homes.

There are several streets that take you in to the neighborhood. The way I know it is by the converted house on the corner of Park and one of those entrance streets that is called MEL Management. They rent properties back in Sherwood Forest subdivision. Maybe they can help.
