Hello..

I have noticed there is a bus company called "megabus" that runs from Memphis for about $3.00 one way to selected cities.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever travelled on Megabus and if you could tell me about the experience. Thanks.

I've done Megabus to/from Atlanta and Chicago, and also between Philly and New York. No complaints. I've done numerous drop offs/pick ups. My trip to Chicago was when Megabus was just starting in Memphis, about 8 passengers from Memphis, filled up in Champaign though. It was about 20 passengers returning from Chicago. Nowadays the Chicago bus is filled to the hilt practically every day.

The problem with Memphis, unlike Philadelphia and New York that have a rudimentary queuing system. Memphis has more of a blob mob system. Depending on the day the blob mob may vary from semi-organized to straight up ghetto, but generally somewhere in between. Once on the bus, it is for the most part nice. Of course, that depends on who else is on board. The bus does have electrical outlets and wifi. However, the wifi may be spotty. So to eliminate any disappointment, go expecting minimum to no wifi service. Overall, no problem recommending Megabus, as long as one is not too highfalutin.

I haven't ridden the Megabus from Memphis, but I have used it to go from NY to DC and back. No problems there. Smooth/comfortable ride. It was also incredibly reasonably priced there -- saved you a bunch on fuel and toll costs if you had driven on your own. I don't know how the prices are here.
