Does anyone know what happened to the blocks of Jefferson and Washington Avenues around McNeil and Watkins Streets?? I've driven through a couple times and am intrigued by the giant, vacant lot which at the same time has really old trees. Tonight, I looked at the Google Map and was shocked to find houses there, so evidently the entire block was torn down in the past couple years. Does anyone know what plans there were or are for this area?

Yea, the plans were for a target that catered to the area, kinda like the Midtown Home Depot. That area was section 8 mostly and contributed to crime. It is gone and so is a lot of the crime. I posted the Crosstown thread that the Target has been put on hold and may be picking back up now that Crosstown has announced plans.

Side not...

Steven Segal used to attend the Buddhist Temple on Jefferson.

Oh, interesting and now I remember your Target reference in the other thread. Part of me hopes Target and other big boxes will stay away from Midtown, though. The Home Depot is handy (since I live so close, I've used it a few times... also haven't found a local hardware store yet).

It would also be a shame to cut those trees down. Maybe an open air Target so they can stay? Just kidding. I worked for the company for six years so I know that would never happen! haha

Stewart Bros on Madison and Cleveland.

I agree 100%, but that being said it has been made known what we expect in Midtown, so I really doubt they would cut the tress down. My mom went to Sacred Heart across the street years...err, decades ago.
