Think the city has finally realized vertical rather horizontal, i.e. suburban sprawl and annexation.

Downtown redevelopment surges south with Crescent Bluff » The Commercial Appeal

It's about time! The article is correct. Downtown is about to explode. I can see it. The way of the future is density and transit oriented development, and there finally people in the leadership in Memphis that realize it

Even funnier that the development company is actually from Nashville.

That area from South Main, to the Crescent Bluffs will be something to see in the few years. As in the article where the apartments are being built, more infill development will take place. I believe that area will be a condo boom.

Those apartments went up pretty quick. They look like they will be nice.

It would be nice to have a grocery store of some type in the South Main area.

The developers may be from Nash, but that town has a lot of experience with this type of development, so if they can bring some quality stuff here too, then I'm all for it.

Darkseid, do you have some concrete info?? You can't mention it and not tell us!

Didn't mean it as a bad thing. Meant it more as a friendly jab from a certain thread from a few days ago.

Yes Darkseid, is this grocery store a hunch you have or is there something concrete with plans & such?

All I can say is that there are a couple of grocery stores inquiring about moving into the South Main area. One chain has scouted the area and is looking at a few plots of land. The future is bright for the entire area and it's only a matter of time before it happens

Yesterday the Mrs and I were in the midtown area and as we were heading to the bash at Overton Square, we were wondering why a decent grocery hasn't taken root. That Kroger on Union is small and out of touch. While it works for the most part, it nothing compared to these monster facilities cropping up in E. Memphis, G-town and Collierville.

Downtown is also in need of grocery shopping. A decent grocery in midtown and downtown would generate so much more people relocating to those two areas.

Hope it's soon.
