To the OP; your interracial relationship will not be an issue at all in Memphis.

Frankly I respectfully think this minimization is hyperbole and mischaracterization of the worst order.

"will not be an issue at ALL " ??? Gee, lady, this is a downright fairytale and very very inaccurate to boot and you should tell the truth. You have previously described yourself as "BLACK" in other web posts here and elsewhere. What planet are you referring to ? certainly not Memphis TN to proclaim that inter racial
relationships "will not" be an ISSUE at ALL. This is insulting to anyone who has lived in Memphis for any period of time. Memphis has as ISSUE with RACE and race relationships at every turn !! interpersonal ones are no exception.

Have you been involved in an inter racial relationship while living in Memphis ?? I doubt it, because if YOU had you would not make such a statement to the OP who is seeking accurate feedback about the social climate viz "race" in Memphis. Your sweeping, almost embarrassing proclamation defies the truth about race relations in Memphis TN, and other cities as well.

Sure interpersonal m/f/race relations is an ISSUE - and it's an issue with black racists and white racists as well.

Memphis has terrible race relations in the first place, and everyone in this great nation and in the south knows that - from politics to segregated churches to history of federally ordered school integration which resulted in lots of so-called "private" CHURCH schools being developed whose sole purpose was to avoid desegregation orders where little white girls would be around little black boys (and vice versa).

Look OP, racism is in Memphis' DNA, and it won't be "out bred" for three or four generations to come.
Compared to other cities and environments, Memphis is far far behind numerous other southern cities.

I can think of only a handful of southern cities where the majority of people might not give a crap about the boogaboo of "inter racial relationships". One is Miami, another Atlanta, Houston, some parts of NOLA/ Dallas, Orlando, and some parts of Tampa Bay......to a lesser extent maybe Charlotte. Memphis is no where in this category friend...neither are places like Little Rock, Jackson, Birmingham, Shreveport, Montgomery, Destin (too many rednecks from Memphis/Bham...lol).

We need to stop lying here.

First of all, I am a man, so let’s get that strait. Secondly, I am black and I have been in the Memphis area for over 20 years, so I am well aware of the racial climate here and I stand by my opinion. I have several friends and family members that have been involved in interracial relationships in the Memphis area (marriages and children). Yes, a couple may get the occasional look, but no one I personally know has ever had an over the top racial experience while out with their partner of another race. Most of the racial strife in this area spills out in the political arena where matters of power and control come into play. On a day to day level, black and white people in Memphis interact and get along with one another everyday. Memphis is no more racial than any other place in the US except when politics are involved. Other places may be just as racial but the black community is not large enough to really be a factor in politics, which limits the racial exposure in politics.

I am sorry if it offends you that I don't live my life with a chip on my shoulder, looking around every corner for the mythical "MAN" that is supposedly holding me down.

Just wondering if the opinions are the same...both neighborhood and socially. A lot has happened since 2013.

I absolutely hated Memphis.

I think I would agree with your statement.

I have never experienced an interracial relationship in Memphis. I have a friend who has a very strong interracial family originally from Boston now in Memphis. The White wife is always complaining about how racist some people they encounter through their daily life are before they find out that she has a biracial family. She did say that the racism in Boston wasn't any less then what they experience in Memphis, just different because of there being so many Blacks in Memphis. If Boston or Seattle had more Black political influence, there would be more racial tension there as well.

Is there any less or more racism in Memphis then any other city. I don't know. But it is there and if you are conscience you will experience it to varying degrees based upon profession, where you live and what you do.

A lot of Memphis racism is reverse racism. The blacks can be racist towards whites and get away with it but if it is vice versa, it's bad.

Very accurate post from one of the better contributors in this forum. Truth without the hyperbolic fear-mongering, but doesn't sugarcoat some of the realities.
