My husband and I are searching for a rental house. After being in a townhome/apartment for 3 years we (and our dog) want a yard. We're looking in the colonial acres/sea isle area and will be seeing a house on Monaco sometime this week--any thoughts on this area? I checked the map posted above and it is in a green area.

For reference, we've lived at Poplar Pike & Massey the last 3 years. We'd like to to stay in the East Memphis area (he works in E. Memphis, I work downtown) and will go up to $950 or so a month.

Any other suggestions on finding rentals? I scour craigslist every day. We did stumble on one open house around Sea Isle this weekend, so I know we should probably just drive around the neighborhoods we're interested in.

I rented a home out there not long ago.....near Quince, not far from White Station.

Never had a problem. The traffic in that part of town gets bad sometimes closer to Mt Moriah and defeinately closer to Poplar, but other than that it was okay. A friend of ours rents along Quince closer to Ridgeway, and their house is larger than the rental house we were in.

You'll be near the same areas you are used to, and within 10-20 minutes from Whole Foods and Fresh Market.

I am not sure I'd recommend the area south of 240 though.

Yeah, size is something we're running into. The house we looked at Sunday, I'm pretty sure our bed wouldn't fit in the master :/

That area is more blue collar and working class than the area near Poplar and Massey, but the area is safe. The northern parts of Colonial Acres (closer to Park and Poplar) and farther east into Sea Isle are more desirable than the areas of CA closer to, and south of Quince. With that being said, safety should not be a concern and crime is pretty low in that area. I would think you should be able to find something a little farther north and east in the more desirable areas for $950 a month.

We found one on Berry Rd we liked, but they said our dog would have to be kept outside--no thanks! I would like to be further north/east.

Try to stay east of Cherry and north of Quince. There are also some affordable rentals in the blocks just north of White Station Middle.

South of Quince is much better once you get east of Mt. Moriah into Sea Isle. Honestly, it really is pretty ok south of Quince as far west as Cherry. There is not very much crime north of the 240 loop and south of Quince until you get closer to Getwell.

Thanks. We're looking at one between Mt.Moriah & White Station tomorrow. We looked at one over off Walnut Grove & Mendenhall, but it was a little higher than we wanted & still the tiny bedroom.

Not sure if this is an issue for you. Walnut Grove and Mendenhall is in the "good" school district, so that commands a premium, as does being on the north side of the railroad track more generally. Walnut Grove and Shady Grove are such pretty streets!
